How do we provide a level of assurance that students will receive quality technology instruction in any class to which they are assigned?

It is a goal of No Child Left Behind that schools “assist every student in crossing the digital divide by ensuring that every student is technologically literate by the time the student finishes the eighth grade, regardless of the student’s race, ethnicity, gender, family income, geographic location, or disability.”

To meet this goal and to prepare students to achieve challenging academic standards and become successful, contributing members of society, we will strive to ensure that all staff members are skilled and experienced in integrating technology in every classroom.

Answer - Our district must clarify standards and expectations pertaining to technology integration, and devise a means for determining the extent to which students exhibit technological proficiencies. Clarifying expectations and assessing student acquisition of essential knowledge and skills ensures that students learn to access and analyze information, solve problems, and communicate ideas, all of which are essential skills for participation in a global, ever-changing world.

Action Plan District technology integration standards for each grade level have been established. All staff members must integrate these technology standards into their instruction during the year, and means for assessing student acquisition of essential proficiencies will be developed.  A program will be devised which provides relevant examples that teachers can use and adapt as well as practical tutorials and quick reference guides that can be implemented. These technology enhanced lessons can be adapted by teachers and administrators, culminating in technology-embedded lessons.
