First grade art students studied writer and art illustrator Mark McKee.

In class we read Mark Mckee's book called "Elmer". We discussed how the artist used bright unrealistic colors to make the jungle come alive. We also studied the characteristics of elephants and then tried to draw them in the illustrator's style. Students learned sponge painting, marker and collage techniques. The book "Elmer" can be found in our school library.
