NOTE: The following databases
offer remote access. User names and passwords are available from the Middle
School Library.
Facts.com
Issues and Controversies @ Facts.com gives up-to-date,
in-depth, and objective information on the issues of the day. This full-text
database includes chronologies, illustrations, maps, tables, sidebars,
bibliographies, and contact information.
Facts on File
This package includes three databases.
- American History Online includes events, images, primary sources,
biographies and timeline.
- Modern World History Online
covers people, places, and events in the broad expanse of history from
the middle of the 15th century to the present.
- Science Online includes experiments, biographies, diagrams, and essays.
NOVEL-EBSCO
This database package is available
from the New York State Library's Empirelink Project.
- MasterFILE Select includes articles from 750 periodicals
- Primary Search includes articles from 50 children's magazines
as well as pamphlets.
- EBSCO
Animals offers information on
the nature and habitats of animals.
- Funk and Wagnall's New World
Encyclopedia is also part of this database.
- General Science contains
full-text articles from 60 scientific publications.
NOVEL - Gale
This set of databases is offered through
the New York State Library. It includes:
- The Health Reference Database
includes
articles on Fitness,
Pregnancy, Medicine, Nutrition, Diseases, Public Health, Occupational Health
and Safety, Alcohol and Drug abuse, HMOs, Prescription Drugs, etc. The
material contained in this database is intended for informational purposes
only.
- Junior Edition, K-12 is
a periodical database
for students in junior high and middle school, with magazines, newspapers and
reference books (most are full-text) for information on current events, the
arts, science, popular culture, health, people, government, history, sports
and more.
- Twayne Authors includes
biographical and critical information on national and international authors.
- Custom Newspapers is a
collection of 150 national and international newspapers.
- New York State newspapers is
a database of 10 major newspapers published in New York State, including the
New York Times and and New York Post.
Proquest
- Proquest is a database of general magazine, newspaper,
and journal articles
- Electric Library offers information from books, magazines, and
newspapers as well as pictures, maps, and television and radio scripts.
Information is rated for relevance to the subject being searched.
- Proquest Professional is a
database of articles for educators.
SIRS Discoverer
This database provides articles on a
wide variety of topics as well as the Funk and Wagnall's New Encyclopedia and the 2000 World Almanac for Kids.
Teaching Books
This database, provided to school
libraries in the area by the Capital Region BOCES, includes information on
authors and books.
Thomson Gale
- Gale Student Resource Center
Junior contains
curriculum-targeted background information, primary documents, biographies,
and essays. The database offers full-text coverage of 100 magazines, over
10,000 photographs and illustrations, and more than 8 hours of audio and video
clips.
- Gale Biography Resource
Center offers thumbnail
sketches, narrative biographies and periodical articles on notable
people.
