Spring 2000 Grants
Stephen Roz , BH-BL High School Academic Support
Center"This grant would enable a group of 40 high school
students to attend Camp Chingachgook in Lake George to participate
in a workshop designed to build self-esteem, problem-solving
strategies and to develop peer/adult
relationships." Grant: $680
Karen Kelly , BH-BL District Committee for Gifted
Education"We are applying for funds to provide a scholarship to
the Center for Distance Learning Math Tutorials from Johns Hopkins
University . The duration of the scholarship would be for three
months on a trial basis for highly able math students who require
exceptional techniques and strategies to meet their needs, which are
beyond the scope of most public school curriculum. Based on positive
evaluation of this program continued funding would be a district
responsibility." Grant: $480 funding to cover one
child.
Trisha Chapman , Stevens Playground Committee"The Stevens
playground is currently undergoing renovation. Most of the equipment
currently in place will soon be removed. This is due to safety
concerns. The children of Stevens will be left with very little
equipment to use. The community uses the playground, as well as the
fields behind Stevens all year. The impact of removing the equipment
will be felt throughout the district. A small committee of concerned
parents has begun fund raising for this project. It is a very costly
project and we would appreciate any help you can give us with it.
Grant: $500.00
