Fall 2002 Grants
John Capano - BHBL Schools Computer Coordinator"The funds
would be used for Video Conference fees. Live,
real-time, interactive Video Conferences will take place between
classrooms and museums, zoos, Government Agencies, etc.
Conferences will also take place between school buildings and
other school districts." Grant: $750 to be
divided among the five buildings evenly.
Christine Gangemi BH-BL High School English Dept."The funds
would be used for a wide-screened T.V. "In the Art and Language
of Film class the students learn to carefully observe nuances the
director includes in the set and effects of lightening and camera
work. .The students' writing assignments always include
close observation of the film. . there are at least 100 seniors
enrolled in the class. That is almost half of the senior class. .
DVD's are now formatted for the wide
screen." Grant: $1500.00 for the T.V.
Beth Larson BH-BL High School Social Studies Department"The
funds would be used to continue work on the Freedom Circle . .
The students would complete all the work on this
project." Comments: The Freedom circle is the area in front on
the high school where the veteran's memorial is located. Mrs.
Larson is requesting a matching grant. She was awarded $500 from
the American Promise Competition. Mrs. Larson details what will
be done including a light on a timer to always have the area
illuminated. This would be the whole class project for
the Participation in Government class. Veteran, Memorial and 9/11
ceremonies are held in the area. Grant:
$500.00
Christine Layden High School Art DepartmentRequesting funds
for "Wacom Intuos six by eight tablets. These tablets equipped
with a stylus, much like a pencil and pad, replace the mouse
and are used with a drawing and painting program such as
Painter." This equipment would improve the creative experience
for students in the new graphics art
lab. Grant: $1630.00
Renee Ramsey for the Pashley Career Day Committee - BHBL
Schools"The funds are requested to support a school-wide Career
Day at Pashley Elementary School that will have a nutrition and
health theme. . This career day is being planned in partnership
with the school faculty, local businesses, community
organizations and the Parent-Teacher Association. . The
curriculum activities developed by the teachers will aide in
addressing the Standards ."
Grant: $400 for curriculum material (books, software) that could be used in subsequent years. We were able to access another $200 for another piece of this project through the Stewart's Holiday Match program.
Susan Schultz and Carol Reynolds - BHBL SchoolsThe funds
will be used to establish a 40 book core collection of
graphic novels for the high school library." Grant:
$700.00 and a request for a list of book titles.
Karen Wang for the Character Recognition
CommitteeApplication Statement: ".to promote recognition of
average, everyday students who have exhibited an unusual degree
of "good character" in their daily activities. . "to purchase a
selection of inspirational posters to be displayed throughout the
school. Grant: $250.00 for posters
